Chi for Older Adults
Tai Chi is a very gentle and
safe exercise, which makes it particularly appealing to
people aged 55 or older. Tai Chi can -

Improve balance and reduce falls:
this is one of the health benefits of Tai Chi that
have been studied the most, and a lot of research
repeatedly proved Tai Chi is very effective in
improving older adults' balance and reducing or
preventing falls.

Boost immunity to
shingles virus: in April 2007, National Institutes
of Health released the results of a very important
study showing Tai Chi, in combination with
immunization, may enhance protection of older adults
from the painful condition of
shingles.

Treat sleep
disturbance:studies show that Tai Chi may be used as
treatment for sleep disorders in older
adults (Clinics in geriatric medicine, 2008
Feb;24(1):121-38, viii).
